These are the objectives which will be based on the standards of the Unit and the students will be completing throughout the unit. The objectives of the Unit will be a guideline for student knowledge. Students should be able to complete all the objectives for the unit of the changing earth as well as extend their knowledge beyond the clear cut objectives.
Lesson 1:
For the students to be able to describe what Global warming is, and how it effects the world around us based on their article and note sheet.
For students to get some base research done which they will be able to work off of when they are doing their Global warming projects.
For the students to get use to being in front of the class and giving a live presentation, because this is what they will be doing for their Global warming project.
Lesson 2:
The objectives for this lesson will be for the students to be able to describe the layers of the earth as well as show how the earth has evolved to its layout today. This will be done by the students teaching the other students about the layers which they have become a "master" on.
Students will use their note sheets as evidence that they have properly described the layers of the Earth.
Also one of the goals of this lesson is to get the students more comfortable working in groups with their peers. Working in groups will be a large part of science class as well as life outside of high school or college, so it is important that the students are allowed to work in groups in multiple instances throughout the year.
Lesson 3:
The students will be predicting the answers on the note sheet by looking ahead in their books to find the answers, as well as using their prior knowledge to fill in the blanks on the note sheet.
The students will be able to identify and describe concepts on plate tectonics and questions relating to plate tectonics.
Students will be working on their note taking skills which will be important to their success in high school and college.
Lesson 4:
The objective of this assignment is for the students to be able to explain continental drift and Wegeners theory plus the effects continental drift has had and will continue to have on the Earth..
Also for the students to work on their intellectual writing skills by stating what they will think will happen with the continuing continental drift. This technique of writing is going to be crucial to the students inquiry assignment and it is definitely necessary to give the students this assignment this way they can improve their writing skills.
Lesson 5:
The students will be properly citing websites which they will be using for their global warming project.
Students will be using specific techniques to get reliable sources on the internet for information on global warming
Lesson 6:
The students to be able to properly use and identify the key terms regarding faults and earthquakes
the students will be able to describe some famous earthquakes or natural disasters caused by faults.
the students to expand their knowledge on how earthquakes are measured and located.
for the students to learn how to take proper notes and participate in a classroom environment.
Lesson 7:
In this lab the students will be building structures which will be trying to withstand a mock earthquake. The students will be able to make predictions about what makes a building more durable and less likely to collapse during an earthquake.
Also this lab will be used to show how buildings collapse during earthquakes which is a devastating affect that earthquakes have on the earth. After completing this lab students should be able to state multiple ways how earthquakes can effect the world around them very quickly.
Lesson 8:
The goal of this lesson will be fore the students to be able to distinguish between the different types of volcanoes as well as be able to label all of the parts of the volcanoes.
This is a hands on lesson which will allow them to work in groups and show their unique creativity.
Lesson 9:
The objectives of this lesson is for the students to be able to describe which happens in an erupting volcano. Also the students will be able to say how an erupting volcano can effect the world around them.
Some misconceptions students have are the definitions of magma and lava, these words will be defined properly throughout this lesson.
Lesson 10:
The Objectives for this lesson is for the students to be able to identify that the changing surface of the earth can be viewed and placed in a timeline based on the geological history.
The students should know the different rock layers, and be able to properly use the terms of this chapter.
Also students should be able to tell the story of the land by simply looking at a diagram which contains the different rock layers as well as fossils in the earths surface.
